We are constantly striving to improve the level of care in our office. In doing so we have added the use of lasers to help treat periodontal (gum) disease.
Approximately 80% of adults are affected by periodontal disease to some extent. It is caused by bacterial plaque and calculus around the teeth and in the gum tissues. While the traditional methods of cleaning your teeth are still used for your typical cleaning or scaling appointment, a diode laser is used to improve this process.
After mechanical removal of the irritants as usual a thin laser tip is placed under the gum around the affected teeth. Laser energy is introduced under the gum to kill any remaining bacteria and painlessly remove infected gum tissue. The laser energy used is specific to target bacteria and inflamed gum tissue while sparing healthy tissue. It can also be used at higher power settings during periodontal scaling appointments to vaporize diseased gum tissue under the gum line and cauterize the area to eliminate bleeding after the procedure allowing for improved healing and better results.
This process is painless and can normally be completed in 10 minutes or less. We highly recommend you take advantage of this service as part of your dental cleanings. Contact us for more information.
